Leah Downey

Occupational Therapist Registered/Licensed

Year I joined CT:

2010

Why I became an OT:

As a little girl, I tagged along to my sister’s occupational therapy sessions and thought that OTs had the best job in the whole world. Now that I’m older, I know that OT is the best job in the whole world! I am still amazed that I get to do what I’ve wanted to do since I was 7 years old – I get to work and play with kids in a way that helps them to be successful in their daily lives.

More about me:

I have my master’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of Minnesota. I’m originally from Chicago, but I came out here for school and liked it so much that I stayed! Previously, I have worked in respite care, early childhood programs, and special education. Each summer I run a week of camp for adults with special needs. When I’m not working, I like to hang out with my husband and friends doing nerdy things like playing board games and watching sci-fi. I also like to read, listen to records, travel, and visit my family.

Special training, certification, and interests:

I am SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Test) certified. I also have certifications in Therapeutic Listening, Interactive Metronome, and The Greenspan Floortime Approach.
