Family-centered Care

We value collaboration and communication with parents. Your expertise about your child is essential for successful therapeutic intervention.

As part of your child’s therapy program, skill-building activities for home are developed in partnership with you, to provide your child with frequent practice opportunities, with respect for your family’s busy life. Sometimes home, school, or community visits can be used to encourage carryover of effective clinic strategies to other settings.

We welcome the opportunity to consult with other healthcare providers and school staff at your request, as part of a comprehensive treatment approach that harnesses the transformative force of many caring and competent people working toward a common goal.

Knowledge is powerful. Therapists and parents communicate before and after each therapy session, so that therapists understand the unique needs and challenges of the day, and you understand how your child responded to therapy and why. During the time when your child is a patient at Children’s Theraplay, you are welcome to make use of our lending library and other clinic resources. You can observe or participate in part or all of therapy sessions, use the time to run errands, or as a “self-care” break when you need it.

At the heart of family-centered practice is the fact that as collaborative partners, parents and therapists are stronger and more effective at achieving change for a child. Read more about our Mission and Core Beliefs here.
